VCP&R Clinic

On Friday June 27th Stumptown provided an impromptu disc golf clinic for the Vancouver/Clark Parks and Recreation Department. They were holding a BBQ to celebrate the completion of Hagen Park in East Vancouver and to celebrate the retirement of one of their managers. Stumptown was called on Thursday to provide a recreation activity for the event.

Steve Carson called in a couple favors from Brian Heath and Jed Brewster, borrowed some portable baskets and went to work setting up a putting skills station, an approach station, a distance practice field and a sample par 3 hole at the park. Approximately 25 Parks and Rec. employees participated prior to their BBQ. All had smiles on their faces and they were very excited about learning this "new" sport.

Points were awarded at each station and new discs were given away to those that scored the most points during the clinic. As a result of the event, David Miletich, Parks Services Manager, is planning to purchase several portable baskets and discs for use in summer day camp and youth programs. The suggestion of building a permanent course in Vancouver was met with applause and cheers during the awards ceremony. Thanks to all who helped make this event happen!
